When did you begin working with NBCC, and how did you arrive?
I joined the NBCC Foundation in May 2018 after working 18 years in construction sales. My prior work experience entailed customer service and being an executive assistant. One of my closest friends mentioned an opening where he worked and thought I would be a good fit. With no experience in the counseling field, I was nervous, but my interviewers made me feel very comfortable and I was given the opportunity to be a part of the NBCC family.
What is your role with NBCC?
I am the Executive Assistant to the VP of the Foundation and Professional Services Division. I work closely with the NBCC Foundation, various departments within our division, and other NBCC affiliates.
What do you enjoy about your work with NBCC?
In addition to my Executive Assistant duties, I work closely with departments within and outside of the Foundation. I enjoy learning something new and this position provides me that opportunity. We truly work as a team. There is a family atmosphere, which helps me be a better employee. Also, when you work under management that really values their employees, it’s easy to be motivated because you know they want you to succeed and are willing to set you up for that success.
What are your interests outside of NBCC?
First, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have been together for 15 years. We have two dogs, Oregano and Jasmine, and two cats, Zoey and Stewie. They show me the true meaning of love and appreciation every day. I also enjoy spending time working out at my local gym and yoga studio, as well as working on DIY projects and creating abstract paintings.
Who is someone you look up to in the field and why?
I have had the opportunity to work with and meet many extraordinary people during my time with NBCC and the NBCC Foundation, but three women have truly influenced my life and career: Kylie Dotson-Blake, Isabel Gomez, and Sherry Allen. They have always provided, and continue to provide, an open-door policy, truly listening to what I have to say. They taught me what it means to have a passion for what you do and how important it is to help others.
